A LITTLE KITCHEN BACKSTORY

Let’s make something lovely.

A strawberry garnish turns a two-minute blend into something a little more fun. The pale pink drinks in the photograph inspire this ice-cream-based version.

Use cold milk and ripe berries, then blend only until smooth. A short blend keeps the milkshake thick enough to feel like a treat.

What you’ll need

Milkshake

Let’s do this

  1. 1

    Prepare the berries

Rinse the strawberries under cool running water and pat dry. Hull and halve the berries for blending. Cut a small slit into each garnish berry.

  2. 2

    Blend

Add the milk, vanilla, hulled berries and ice cream to a blender. Blend for 20–30 seconds, just until creamy and smooth.

  3. 3

    Pour and finish

Divide between two glasses and slide a garnish berry onto each rim. Serve immediately while cold and thick.

Allergen heads-up

Milk, Eggs may be present in ice cream; check labels. Check every ingredient and substitute for your own needs.

THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Before the happy first bite.

01

Chill the glasses while you prepare the berries.

02

Let very firm ice cream stand for 3–5 minutes so the blender can handle it.

03

If the blender stalls, stop it and loosen the mixture with a spatula before blending again; never put utensils in a running blender.

Save some for later

Best served immediately. If necessary, cover and refrigerate at 40°F (4°C) or colder for up to 24 hours, then stir; the ice cream will melt and the texture will be thinner.
